How Quickly Google Local Can Work For You?

Recently we were asked to build a website for a fairly typical small business: a tree service company. Unico Tree Service came to Design Delux with one primary goal: to be listed in the Google Local “Ten Pack” map listing.

We have had lots of success doing this for previous clients, so our chances of achieving this here were pretty good. The design of the site was always going to be simple. My thoughts were to build a glorified landing page with one simple goal-conversions. In this case phone calls.

With phone calls as the primary focus the decision was made early on to put the phone number in three places: at the top of the page, in the sidebar and in the footer. We then decided to add the address in this case Holmdel New Jersey to 2 of these locations.

The rest of the site is fairly simple to start more content will be added in time.

About seven days after the site was live we went to Google.com/LBC and created a “Places” formerly known as “Local Business Listing”. The combination of the listing and the prominent phone number and address on the site led the site being listed in Google Local in 14 days.

The keys to winning with Google Local are:

  • Have a real business with a real address and phone number.
  • Create a clean optimized site with your address and phone number in HTML in several places.
  • Claim or create you Google Places listing.

Good luck.
